What is UCB1 rootstock in pistachio?
The rootstock UCB1 is currently the most widely used and recommended rootstock for pistachio cultivation at the international level. It is a hybrid between Pistacia atlantica y Pistacia integerrima, specifically designed for use as a rootstock. It does not produce fruit on its own, but provides an extremely vigorous, hardy and productive base for commercial pistachio varieties.
This rootstock stands out for its high vigor, high resistance to soil diseases, tolerance to salinity and cold., and for its excellent performance in both irrigated and rainfed conditions. Thanks to its agronomic qualities, the UCB1 allows for earlier entry into production and higher yields throughout the life of the crop.
Today, it is the most widely used rootstock in leading pistachio countries such as United States and Iran, and has established itself as the reference option for modern plantations that seek to profitability, security and production stability.

The UCB1 rootstock has a number of characteristics that make it the most advanced option for new pistachio plantations:
