Seed UCB-1 is the abbreviated name of the University of California hybrid pistachio rootstock, invented by the UCB Plant Pathology Department1. It is a hybrid of pistacia atlantica x P. integerrima. Both parents are homozygous and produce hybrid seedlings with minimal variability.
It is characterized as a superior hybrid for its resistance to Verticilium, disease, salt and cold tolerance and vigor. One of the most popular rootstocks in the world for new pistachio plantations, it is normally planted in winter and grafted in the field the following summer.
